On Saturday, May 27th 9th St. Studios will be throwing another amazing event, this time with Tulsa artist Daniel Gulick. Daniel has a rich history across artistic mediums.
I’m a professional illustrator/painter. I’m a tattooer and own my tattoo studio, ColourStudios in Tulsa. I worked in television for many years. I was a guest artist on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition for 3 seasons. I provided all art for the first season of Texas Flip and Move. I’ve provided art for Tiny House Nation and a few others. I’ve traveled the country doing murals for the last 15 years. I’m currently intrigued by animals. Their limited freedom caused by man. And most recently in my work is all about birds. Birds on the other hand aren’t bound by our hand. They can up and go whenever, wherever. That’s true freedom. So this current body of work I’ll be showing represents my thoughts on that. My work speaks in metaphors. It’s not always so direct to the viewer. You need to think about it for a second while you’re staring at a piece. I’m a mixed media artist so I tend to combined a variety of elements in my work.
Daniel will be painting his new mural on the side of 9th St. Studios on May 24-25. The public is welcome to stop by and see his progress, although encouraged not to distract him as he is on a schedule. There will be opportunity to meet Daniel and pick his brain at the Saturday, May 27th show upstairs where his latest series of work will be on display. The show is free and will be Saturday 6-10 PM at 9th St. Studios at 920 9th Street on the corner of 9th and Travis.
