How and when was Barefoot Dixie conceived?

Kim: Barefoot Dixie wasa a result of a long time friendship between myself and Tammy Nichole. I had been playing in a touring band for a few years, and she had been trying her hand at recording and different things.. We just decided we wanted to form a music project where we could do what we wanted, play music our way..  As for the name…I woke up out of a dead sleep at 3 am in morning and called Tammy and said ..Barefoot Dixie..We are Barefoot Dixie..lol, and it stuck!
Tammy: The different things I was doing besides recording were playing at multiple opry’s and festivals. Besides rebel country I grew up listening to traditional country music. Many influences help mold the artist I am today. We also enjoy writing our own music.

Frankie Sarabia wasn’t there in the beginning was he? When did he join?

Kim: Tammy and I took a little break to sort out a few life things for the last half of 2015 and we had just started playing a little here and there, just the 2 of us. On Friday nights there is this funky little coffee shop downtown that had an open mic night. Frankie was always there. It’s a cool little place called the 8th Street Coffee House. One Friday he approached us and asked if he could sit in with us and we were like of course, and he has been with us for about a month now.. He is officially part of the band now. He was a great addition. He is a talented percussionist.

Was it an easy adjustment bring him into the songs?

I wish I could say yes. He started with a cajon, which was the sound we all thought we wanted, but we moved up to the Djembe sound He plays a variety of hand drums. We fell in love with that big, full sound and now he plays a combination of both percusion hand drums and his cajon. We are starting to meld really well. It’s like Frankie says, Tammy and I have such solid chemistry but we have been doing this for over 10 years off and on together, be it full band or acoustic. Frankie is a welcome addition.

What are some of your favorite songs to cover?

I love old rock songs and soul songs. Tammy digs the Rebel country style songs and she has come around to putting her trademark twang on a few rock covers too. We love real country, real rock, and R&B. I think we have a great blend of something for everyone and crowds really dig it. They love to sing along and interact with us.

Do you have any plans for recording?

Yes. We have a little studio here at home and we just recorded a little demo of cover tunes with Frankie on them. We have recorded an EP in the past and had great radio airplay in the Texas music market. You can find that EP available for streaming on Spotify and also on Amazon.com and iTunes.
